Moon and Dawn over the Vines.
This dramatic image of the dawn light painting the western sky and full moon is from the
vineyards of Cave B Estate Winery, an award-winning boutique winery located in the Columbia
Valley wine region that is soon to be designated the Ancient Lakes AVA. Nestled alongside the
majestic Columbia River (near the Gorge of rock concert fame), Cave B offers not only some
of the best wines in Washington but also a contemporary inn and a four-star restaurant.
Cave B is one of my favorite wine "getaways."

I headed back to Walla Walla again for October's free image. This is the vineyard of a'Maurice Cellars
fronted by a full bloom of lavender captured this past August. Owner/Winemaker Anna Schafer is amongst the
best of the region's new generation of winemakers –"Red Blend" is my favorite but try a taste of all her
wines and you’ll see why a'Maurice is high on many a wine list. http://www.amaurice.com/

September's free image is from Walla Walla, one of the world's great AVAs, and a
personal favorite region to photograph. Walla Walla is home to nearly 200 wineries,
vast acreage of grapes and townfolk who love wine and wine lovers. If you're looking for
a wine weekend away from the bustle of Napa that offers world class wines – particularly
merlots - in a relaxed setting, W2 is the place for you! This image of dawn light over
a Walla Walla vineyard is from my new exhibit "Art from the Vine" on display at
Nectar Tasting Room in Spokane, WA.

July's free image is from the wine producing farm Franzosi in Puegnago in Italy's Lake Garda
area. This area on the south side of the beautiful Lake Garda region is home to many
vineyards. The a very fruity and light red wine Bardolino is probably the best known Lake Garda
wine but there are many other great wines to enjoy from this region. A particular favorite
is Valpolicella and the crisp white Soave. A visit to the Franzosi farm and superb tasting room
offers not only a range of wonderful wines but olive oils and other farm-raised products.
On your next wine tour of Italy, consider a two-three day stay in Garda!

June's image is also from the new exhibit Art from the Vine on display now at
Tefft Cellars in Woodinville, WA. This one shows off the digital tools I'm using to
nudge some of my wine images towards a more fine art direction. Colors of Crush 2 comes from
Sonoma during the height of the autumn crush season. Captured on gallery wrapped canvas, this
is one of my favorites from the exhibit.

May's free desktop download is from the Verrazzano estate in Tuscany – one of
my favorite Chianti vineyards – captured at lunch time after a thoroughly enjoyable tour!
The image is also a sneak peek at my new exhibit "Art from the Vine" – an
offshoot direction I'm exploring with my images that ventures a bit closer to
fine art without sacrificing all the photographic quality of the image.
I've incorporated some dynamic software tools to underscore and augment the
details, patterns and colors of the original image. The exhibit will feature select
wine images printed on gallery style canvas wraps or framed metallic-coated
paper (which adds an almost three-dimensional effect). Both papers are also a
step to the side from traditional photo papers.
I'm particularly pleased to open the exhibit at Tefft Cellars in Woodinville, surely
one of the most beautiful tasting rooms in the area. The Tuscan-style colors and
broad walls are a perfect complement to my work. The exhibit opens to a private
viewing exclusively for Tefft Wine Club members on June 4. The exhibit opens
to all starting June 5 – I'll be there for the Artist Reception from 2-6 so
stop in, enjoy the great Tefft wines (I'm partial to Villa Toscana) and view
my new exhibit – "Art from the Vine!" Salute!

Leonesse Cellars, part of the beautiful Temecula wine country, a valley encompassing an
area that includes over 35,000 acres of rolling hills and vineyards. Rural in nature,
sustainable in farming practices and including an agricultural preserve known as the
Citrus/Vineyard zone, the Temecula Valley is home to over 40 superb and beautiful wineries
and vineyards, just about an hour north of San Diego.

Climb to the Vine
Winemakers and grape growers the world over readily will tell you that theirs is a difficult craft,
full of long days and much hard labor. This is doubly so for Italy's Cinque Terra winemakers. Literally carved
out of the rock wall of sloping hills, these vineyards rise steeply to form peaks overlooking the villages and
the sea. Each day the winemakers climb to tend to their vines and during crush, methodically descend laden with
a bin of grapes on their shoulders. With few exceptions, there’s not much technology at work here – just
fierce determination to produce quality wine. Among the enjoyable white wines
produced: Vermentino; Pigato DOC Riviera Ligure di Ponente, Cinque Terre DOC 5 Terre and desert wine Sciacchetrà.
This image was captured in mid-September.

Soft early morning sunlight splays across the Spring Valley Vineyard in Walla Walla's wonderful wine
country – a favorite winery of mine to sip and shoot! Located about 10 miles north of Walla Walla, the
vineyard grows its grapes alongside more traditional farm crops which makes for wonderful textures and patterns
to capture in the camera. Superb wines that receive strong and consistent acclaim.
